Some jargon

APC: Angle (polished) Physical Contact.
Fibre optic connector.
Fibre media converter: Converts optical- to electrical signals and electrical- to optical signals. Usually has one- or two optical connectors and one Ethernet connector.
Fibre optic modem: Actually not a modem at all, but a fibre media converter.
FTU: Fibre Termination Unit:
A little spool with some fibre optic cable and a clamp to hold a fibre optic connector. Connects to fibre media converter or patchcover.
LC: Lucent connector.
Fibre optic connector.
Media converter: Fibre media converter.
NT: Network Termination unit:
Fibre media converter.
NTU: Network Termination Unit:
Fibre media converter.
ONT: Optical Network Terminal:
The exact meaning of this phrase varies a lot! Always ask people what exactly they mean by ONT!
Patchcover: Cover for FTU with optical fibre patch cord. Connects to fibre media converter.
PC: Physical Contact.
Fibre optic connector.
SC: Subscriber Connector.
Fibre optic connector.
SFP: Small form-factor pluggable transceiver:
(Optical) plugin for media converter, nic or router.
UPC: Ultra polished Physical Contact.
